Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google, Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI, and Amazon-backed (AMZN) Anthropic are hoping to launch a self-regulatory standards body focused on artificial intelligence safety by the end of the year or early in 2027, The Information reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The tentative name of the industry-led body without government oversight is Standards Authority for Frontier AI, the report said.

The standards body would assist third-party organizations in the testing of AI models before deployment and establish a process for AI developers to report safety and security incidents, among other functions, according to the report.

Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic did not reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
