AMC Global Media swung to a loss in the second quarter amid lower domestic advertising and subscription revenue.

The American entertainment and mass-media company on Thursday posted a net loss attributable to stockholders of $21.9 million, or 51 cents a share, compared with a profit attributable to stockholders of $50.3 million, or 91 cents a share, in the same quarter a year earlier.

Adjusted loss came to 28 cents a share. According to FactSet, analysts were expecting a loss of 12 cents a share.

Net revenue fell 8.8% to $547.5 million. Analysts expected a less precipitous decline to $555.7 million.

Domestic subscription revenue, AMC's largest contributor, declined by 4.5% to $305.9 million, primarily due to a decline in affiliate revenue. U.S. advertising revenue was down over 11% to $108.8 million, and domestic content-licensing and other revenue fell 34% to $55.7 million.

AMC also said it has signed a long-term co-exclusive licensing agreement with Netflix to stream its entire Walking Dead Universe.

Chief Executive Officer Kristin Dolan said the deal is expected to provide a meaningful source of cash flow for years to come, and cited renewed distribution agreements with Comcast and YouTube as well.
