K-Tech Solutions (KMRK) said Thursday it has begun construction on an initial 5-megawatt computing site in Alberta, Canada, as part of a joint venture to build large-scale data center capacity.

The company said the project will test integration between local natural gas-powered energy systems and its high-density computing equipment.

The 5 MW site will serve as a pilot for a larger 100 MW facility planned in the province, the company said, adding the technical testing phase would evaluate power efficiency, environmental performance, and cost advantages of using on-site energy generation at gas wellheads.

Shares of the company were up more than 10% in Thursday's premarket activity.
