Concerns are growing among some Republican lawmakers about supporting the Iran war without clarity from the Trump administration on important details. South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said that there is a gap between what the public is told regarding the justifications for the Iran war and the military objectives that committee members were told in a briefing Wednesday. "This gap is deeply troubling. The longer this war continues, the faster it will lose the support of Congress and the American people," she said on X. "I will not support troops on the ground in Iran, even more so after this briefing."
Last week, in response to reports that the Pentagon had asked the White House for $200 billion in new funding for the Iran war, some Republican lawmakers sought more information on how the money would be used. "We're going to drill down into all that. The amount, the necessity, the oversight required," said Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R., Pa.), a centrist on the House Intelligence Committee.
