Unilever Could Spin Off Food as It Did Ice Cream -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Mar 19

1704 GMT - Unilever could repeat the spinoff process it followed for ice cream with its food arm if a buyer with a reasonable offer falls through, AJ Bell's Dan Coatsworth says. It has done a demerger before, giving it the knowledge to do so again, he adds. "Demergers aren't a last resort. They often lead to greater value generation than under a conglomerate structure." The food business is a slow and steady entity, and divisional management could allow it to make more entrepreneurial decisions, he adds. (aimee.look@wsj.com)
