Chinese shipbuilding companies saw orders rebound after orders declined in 2025 due to threats of U.S. port fees, Nikkei Asia reported Thursday.

While monthly figures from the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry showed orders fell in the year through October 2025 on a deadweight-tonnage basis, they rose toward the end of 2025 and picked up further in January 2026, the report said.

Worldwide, Chinese companies received 67% of new shipbuilding orders in January, rising further to 80% in February, according to the report.

Yanzijiang Shipbuilding saw its new orders jump to $2.17 billion in mid-November 2025 from $540 million at the end of June 2025, the report said.

The company saw an additional $300 million in orders by the end of 2025, Nikkei said.
