Shares of Hallador Energy fell after the company reported a surprise loss and lower-than-expected revenue during the fourth quarter.
The stock fell 15%, to $16.37, midday Friday. The stock has risen 63% over the past 12 months.
The energy company on Thursday reported a fourth-quarter loss of about $200,000, compared with a loss of $215.8 million a year earlier. That figure included a non-cash write down of the carrying value of the company's Sunrise Coal subsidiary by about $215 million, the Terre Haute, Ind., company said.
Total operating revenue rose to $102.4 million, up from $94.8 million a year prior.
Analysts surveyed by FactSet were expecting a profit of about $100,000 and $103.1 million in revenue.
