One recent airport pain point is set to ease: The Department of Homeland Security said it has resumed Global Entry procedures for travelers returning to the U.S., despite the agency's ongoing shutdown.
The dedicated lanes were suspended in late February along with TSA PreCheck, though DHS quickly backtracked on discontinuing the latter program. The travel industry complained the suspension was gumming up airports, adding to headaches at a time when TSA checkpoint waits have compounded in some cities.
Global Entry-enrolled travelers are expedited at participating airports and land borders when returning from abroad. The screening process is largely automated, and funded primarily through application fees that travelers pay to sign up.
