Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Decline Thursday Afternoon

Consumer stocks were lower Thursday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) decreasing 0.1% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) shedding 0.3%.

In corporate news, Ford (F) will provide an over-the-air update to a lighting system software glitch that led to the safety recall of nearly 4.4 million vehicles, the company said Thursday in an email to MT Newswires. Ford shares were down 0.5%.

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) reported a larger-than-expected Q4 loss on Thursday, though revenue and subscriber growth topped estimates. Its shares were fractionally lower.

Costco (COST), FedEx (FDX), and Goodyear Tire & Rubber (GT) are among 1,800 companies that have filed lawsuits seeking refunds after the recent Supreme Court ruling that struck down many of President Donald Trump's tariffs, the Wall Street Journal reported. Costco shares were down 0.7%, FedEx rose 1.7%, and Goodyear shed 0.4%.
