Papa John's Turns to Deals as Performance Remains 'Mixed' -- Market Talk

0826 ET - Pizza players are engaged in value wars, and Papa John's International says it's upping its discounting game to try to compete. A 50% carryout deal helped increase orders in that channel, but delivery orders fell in 4Q. The company says its near-term performance is "mixed" as it seeks to turnaround its business. North American same-stores sales declined 2% in 4Q. Papa John's is off 3.5% premarket.(heather.haddon@wsj.com; @heatherhaddon)
