Philippines' Isla Launches New Batangas LPG Import Terminal -- OPIS

The Philippines' LPG distributor Isla Group has launched a new LPG import terminal in Batangas City with a nominal storage capacity of approximately 25,000 metric tons, capable of unloading both refrigerated propane and butane from very large gas carriers and pressurized cargoes, according to a Monday social media post by the Department of Energy.

As the largest pressurized LPG terminal in the country, the facility is designed to improve domestic supply chain efficiency through its 12 storage tanks and four truck-loading bays, which facilitate distribution via LPG trucks and inter-island pressurized vessels.

Some Southeast Asian sources said the terminal's launch was slightly delayed, as construction was initially scheduled for completion late last year.

Analysts said the new facility could support demand for even-split LPG cargoes in Asia, as the Philippines typically requires propane and butane mix cargoes for residential and household use.

"Demand for full propane cargoes may decline amid the recent petrochemical overhaul in Northeast Asia and overcapacity in China's propane dehydrogenation sector. Demand growth could instead be driven by the residential LPG sector in countries such as India and Southeast Asia, supporting the need for even-split LPG cargoes in the region," a Singapore-based analyst said.

Vortexa data showed the Philippines imported around 1.89 million mt of LPG in 2025, with even-split cargoes accounting for the largest share at 680,400 mt.

China was the top supplier at 456,300 mt, with sources noting that these volumes are probably resale cargoes, followed by Qatar at 364,700 mt.

Philippines LPG imports in January totaled around 218,500 mt, with the US supplying the majority at 60,300 mt. February volumes were estimated at 151,800 mt, the same data showed.
