BUZZ-US paper and packaging firms fall as containerboard prices slide

** Shares of U.S. paper and packaging firms fall in premarket trading

** RBC notes that a RISI survey indicates majority of buyers reported lower containerboard prices in February, while an unusually large wave of European imports increased supply and added further downward pressure

** Brokerage says prices of lineboard and medium, types of paper used to make corrugated cardboard, were both down $20 month-over-month to $925/ton and $815/ton, respectively

** Shares of Packaging Corp of America PKG.N and U.S.-listed stock of Smurfit Westrock SW.N down more than 6% each premarket

** Shares of International Paper IP.N were down 5.8%

** In 2025, PKG fell 8.4% and SW was down 28.2%
