Exchange-Traded Funds Mixed Following Supreme Court Ruling Against Trump's Tariffs

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were mixed, with the latter trading higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) added 0.7%.

US equity indexes traded mixed at midday Friday after the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump's punitive tariffs on international trade partners, and the economy grew at a slower pace than forecast for Q4.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each lost about 0.7%.

Technology

The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was up 0.6%, and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) added 0.9%.

The State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was 0.4% higher, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 0.6%.

Financial

The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was down 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) lost 0.1%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), was 0.2% higher.

Commodities

Crude oil was 0.4% higher, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.1%. Natural gas added 4.6%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 4.7% higher.

Gold on Comex was up 1.6%, and the State Street SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 1.4%. Silver added 5.8%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) gained 5.6%.

Consumer

The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) dropped 0.1%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) declined 0.3% and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) gained 0.1%.

The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was 0.5% higher. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) fell 0.3%, and the State Street SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 0.4%.

Health Care

The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) shed 0.5%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were 0.3% lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) decreased 0.6%.

Industrial

The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) added 0.1%. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) was fractionally lower and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) moved up 0.1%.

Cryptocurrency

In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) rose 1.6%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF (BITO) added 0.8%, ProShares Ether ETF (EETH) increased 0.9%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) gained 0.6%.
