Asian Currencies Consolidate; Fading Fed Rate-Cut Prospects Could Weigh -- Market Talk

0030 GMT - Asian currencies consolidate against the dollar in the morning session, but could be weighed down by fading prospects of Fed rate cuts that would diminish risk appetite. The minutes of the FOMC's January meeting revealed a more hawkish tone, NAB's Gavin Friend says in commentary. The minutes showed "several policymakers indicated they would have supported a two-sided description of the FOMC's future rate decisions, reflecting the possibility that upward adjustments to the target range could be appropriate if inflation remains above target levels," the senior markets strategist adds. USD/JPY edges 0.1% lower to 154.73, USD/SGD is little changed at 1.2674, and AUD/USD is flat at 0.7041, FactSet data show. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
