Fed's Kashkari: Rates Could Be Close to Neutral -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Yesterday

0936 ET - Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari says that the Fed's current interest-rate setting is likely close to a neutral level that is neither boosting nor restraining the economy. Speaking at a business conference in North Dakota, Kashkari says, "My guess is we're pretty close to neutral on where our monetary policy is." The view suggests that with inflation lingering above the Fed's 2% target, Kashkari may be reluctant to support further rate reductions in the near term as a voting member of the Fed's policy committee this year.
