London's Heathrow Airport passenger numbers rose to a record 6.5 million in January, boosted by increased demand for post-New Year's getaways.

The airport said Wednesday that the number of departing or arriving passengers from the Middle East surged 8.2% last month compared with January 2025, while those from Africa jumped 6.8%.

Asia-Pacific figures went up 2%, and the number of passengers from EU member states increased 1.1%. U.K. departing or arriving passengers grew 0.9%, while those from North America nudged up 0.6%.

However, passenger numbers from Latin America fell 4.4%, Heathrow said.

The airport saw multiple peak days of over 250,000 passengers versus the previous January record of 246,000, it added.
