Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday said the White House should "recalibrate" its immigration-enforcement strategy to restore respect for law-enforcement officers in the wake of Saturday's lethal shooting in Minneapolis.
"They, being the White House, need to recalibrate on what needs to be done to make sure that that respect is going to be reinstilled," Abbott, a Republican, said on "The Mark Davis Show."
Abbott said the White House is formulating a plan to "work from a different direction" and ensure law enforcement can "go about their job in a more structured way." He also criticized Democratic Minnesota officials, accusing them of inciting violence over federal immigration-enforcement activity.
A growing number of Republican lawmakers have called for an investigation into the death of Alex Pretti, 37 years old. He was shot by a Border Patrol agent roughly two weeks after Minneapolis resident Renee Good, also 37, was fatally shot by an ICE officer.
