Canada to continue to hold talks on auto tariffs with China, minister says
BEIJING, Jan 15 (Reuters) - The Canadian government will continue to hold conversations about tariffs in the auto sector, including with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Minister of Industry Melanie Joly said on Thursday.
Canada has been working on a new strategy to make sure it favours domestic auto production, Joly told reporters in Beijing.
In 2024, the government under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau imposed 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles after surging Canadian imports of Chinese EVs, including vehicles made by TeslaTSLA.O in China, to protect domestic industry and workers.
