Hyundai Motor Group, parent of automakers Hyundai Motor (KRX:005380) and Kia (KRX:000270), began the mass production of an on-device AI chip called Edge Brain, which allows autonomous operation of robots without the need for an external network.

Hyundai Motor Group introduced the product at CES 2026 in Las Vegas on Thursday, Yonhap News reported Friday.

The on-device AI chip was made under a partnership between Hyundai's Robotics Lab and local AI chip firm DeepX, the report said.

The chip is already in use across several Robotics Lab projects, including Hyundai Motor's Facey facial recognition system and a delivery robot in testing. The chip will later be implemented across other initiatives such as AI security and next-generation mobile robots, the report said.

Shares of Hyundai Motor jumped more than 7% at market close, while those of Kia increased nearly 7%.
