Stocks fell modestly on the last trading day of the year for Wall Street.

These stocks were moving Wednesday:

Nvidia rose 0.7%. The chip maker's stock has been hit by fears of competition from rival hardware but the prospect of resumed sales in China could point the way to future gains for the shares.

Tesla rose slightly as investors in the electric-vehicle maker prepared for the release Friday of fourth-quarter delivery numbers, which are projected to decline.

Hecla Mining -- the largest U.S. silver producer -- fell 1.5%. The price of the white metal dropped 8% after exchange operator CME Group increased margin requirements for the second time in a week.

Newmont fell 1.4% with the world's largest gold miner hit by the falling price of precious metals. Fellow miner Freeport-McMoRan was down 0.7%.

Vanda Pharmaceuticals jumped 34% after the Food and Drug Administration approved Nereus as a treatment to prevent vomiting induced by motion.

Nike gained 1.8% to $62.31. Nike President and CEO Elliott Hill purchased 16,388 shares of the athletic apparel maker at an average price of $61.10 on Dec. 29, according to a regulatory filing.

Corcept Therapeutics sank 46%. The company said that while the Food and Drug Administration acknowledged the company's Grace trial for relacorilant met its primary endpoint and that data from Corcept's Gradient trial provided confirmatory evidence, the FDA concluded "it could not arrive at a favorable benefit-risk assessment for relacorilant without Corcept providing additional evidence of effectiveness." Relacorilant is a treatment for patients with hypertension secondary to hypercortisolism.

Trump Media & Technology Group rose 3.8%. The media company of President Donald Trump plans to a new digital token to its shareholders in partnership with Crypto.com.
