South Korea's Kospi Could Rise to 5000 in 1H 2026, Nomura Says -- Market Talk

0316 GMT - South Korea's benchmark Kospi could rise to 5000 in 1H 2026, supported by global artificial-intelligence capital expenditure and a "supercycle" boom in the semiconductor industry, Nomura analysts write in a research note. The Kospi has gained more than 70% this year, with the index recently hovering at around 4100. Nomura says the local equity market has more room to rise, as strong demand for powerful computing chips, including high bandwidth memory products, and AI data-center build-outs could serve as catalysts. Nomura says the Seoul government's corporate "value-up" reforms, including a recent dividend tax reduction, also support the equity market. (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
