Google's YouTube TV and TelevisaUnivision have signed a multi-year deal that will return the Spanish-language broadcaster's channels to YouTube TV's subscribers.
As part of the pact, YouTube TV will now offer TelevisaUnivision's U.S. networks on both its base plan and Spanish plan, TelevisaUnivision said Wednesday.
YouTube will also offer ViX on its primetime channels, which it will extend to Mexico for the first time, TelevisaUnivision said.
The deal restores Univision's channels to YouTube TV after going dark at the end of September over a carriage dispute.
During the weekslong dispute, YouTube TV proposed cutting TelevisaUnivision from its basic offering of channels, instead offering it in a more expensive specialty tier. TelevisaUnivision said that amounts to a "Hispanic tax" and is unfair to a channel that serves a fast-growing audience.
YouTube TV said its viewership data doesn't support keeping the service in its most popular package of channels, which TelevisaUnivision disputed.
TelevisaUnivision said the deal recognizes the essential role that its content plays in the daily lives of its viewers.
"We are pleased to have reached an agreement that restores Univision to YouTube TV, ensuring millions of Hispanics can access the news, sports, and entertainment they care about and have relied on for over 70 years," TelevisaUnivision Chief Executive Daniel Alegre said.
The end of the dispute comes after YouTube TV resolved weeks of similarly tense negotiations with Disney, allowing it to return the entertainment giant's networks to its subscribers. Each side had accused the other of negotiating in bad faith and of misleading consumers about the issues dividing them.
