Market Chatter: Nvidia Chips Bought by ByteDance More Than Any Other Chinese Company This Year

Nvidia's (NVDA) chips were bought by ByteDance more than any other Chinese company this year, The Information reported Wednesday.

The Tik-Tok owner is hoarding the chips over concerns the US government might cut off its supply, the report said, citing three sources with direct knowledge of the purchases.

Chinese regulators in recent months prohibited ByteDance from using Nvidia chips in new data centers, meaning that ByteDance is sitting on chips it cannot use, according to the report, which noted that China doesn't ban Nvidia's more powerful chips for training.

Nvidia and ByteDance did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
