Asia Investors Should Look Beyond AI Trades in 2026 -- Market Talk

1038 GMT - Asia investors would do well to look beyond AI next year, HSBC analysts say. AI exposure is already stretched, and there's plenty more opportunity in the region. "This includes high-growth stocks in mainland China, consumption plays in India, turnaround stories from Asean." In China, they tap power-equipment supplier Harbin Electric as poised to win from Beijing's energy self-sufficiency push. Also meriting a look is India, where valuations offer value and earnings are set to recover. HSBC thinks consumer names--including autos--will benefit from India tax reform and lower interest rates, and that banks' margins will grow. Indonesia appeals too, as the government has scaled up policy support, and looser monetary policy aids recovery. Indonesian convenience store firm Alfamart and India's PB Fintech and Phoenix M are among HSBC's 2026 picks.(jason.chau@wsj.com)
