1150 ET - Starbucks depends on people buying seasonal drinks in November and December, and the company says that U.S. consumers are coming out for them. Chain CEO Brian Niccol said in a message that the company had its biggest North American sales day when its holiday program launched last week. The chain's Red Cup Day Thursday also delivered strong results, Niccol said. Niccol is aiming to turn around the chain's sales as beverage competition rises in the U.S. and consumers pull back on discretionary spending. (heather.haddon@wsj.com; @heatherhaddon)
