Chinese Funds' Tech Overweight May Pose Risks -- Market Talk

0713 GMT - Chinese funds' record-high tech allocations in 3Q are a risk to be watched, HSBC analysts say in a note. Both domestic and northbound funds--investing in mainland China via Hong Kong--added AI-related holdings while reducing exposure to banks, food & beverage, and home appliances sectors, reflecting a cautious view on a domestic consumption recovery. Although China has introduced guidelines on funds drifting from their stated investment style, HSBC expects limited impact from these rules. Instead, since most active stock-focused mutual funds are benchmarked to broad indexes, a significant deviation from the benchmarks may suggest a reversion back in the future.
