Communications-services companies rose amid strong earnings and deal speculation.

News Corp shares rallied after it posted brisk revenue growth at Dow Jones, the publisher of this news item, and its digital real estate unit, which offset drops in the HarperCollins book publishing unit.

Comcast's Sky, formerly owned by a News Corp. predecessor company, is in talks to buy the broadcasting arm of Britain's ITV for $2.1 billion, including debt, in a move that would expand the U.S. media giant's footprint in Europe.

DraftKings is moving ahead with launching prediction markets in states where sports betting isn't legal, despite previous concerns that such a move could strain efforts to legalize sports wagering in all 50 states.
