Honda Motor Co (TYO:7267) is revising its electric vehicle strategy in China and delaying the launch of its Ye GT flagship sedan by about a year as price competition from BYD and other local automakers intensifies, Nikkei reported Friday.
The GT, initially slated for December, follows the P7 SUV - the first model under Honda's China-developed Ye EV brand - which has struggled to meet its 10,000-unit monthly sales target after debuting in March at 199,900 yuan, according to the report.
Honda found the GT also lacks price competitiveness and is now revising its specifications and development plans, potentially pushing back future Ye models, the report said.
