Genesis Energy (NZE:GNE, ASX:GNE) secured rights to develop a 271 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar farm near Rangiriri, Waikato, strategically located near Auckland, Transpower's upcoming Glen Murray 220 kilovolt substation, and the company's 200 megawatt-hour Huntly power station, according to a Thursday filing with the New Zealand and Australian bourses.
The NZ$487 million project is expected to complete vendor deliverables between the second and third quarters of 2026 and has full consent and grid connection, per the filing.
The Rangiriri site expands the company's advanced-stage solar pipeline to around 700 MWp, advancing its Gen35 target of up to 500 MWp of solar to complement hydro generation and reduce summer gas use, the filing added.
The final investment decision is scheduled for mid-2027, with the project expected to start generating electricity by mid-2029.
