Gold Mining Stocks Fall as Gold Futures Drop

Shares of gold mining companies slid as prices for the precious metal headed for their biggest decline in more than a decade.

Shares of Kinross Gold and Gold Fields Limited both slid 11%. Alamos Gold retreated 10%, Newmont declined 9.1% and Agnico Eagle Mines was off 8.7%. Barrick Mining and Franco-Nevada were down 8.6% and 5.1%, respectively.

On Tuesday, most-active gold futures contracts traded 5.3% lower at about $4,127 per troy ounce, a day after settling at a new record.

Gold hasn't dropped more than 5% in a single session since June 2013, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

Silver futures also declined.
