PulteGroup Says Housing Shortage Doesn't Have Quick Fix -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1457 ET - President Trump has recently put pressure on homebuilders, claiming they are intentionally sitting on lots to keep supply down and prices high. That has sparked investor concern that the Trump administration could intervene to force companies to build even when not profitable. Responding to Trump's comments, PulteGroup Chief Executive Ryan Marshall says in the company's earnings call that the "complexities of the new home construction industry" mean that solving the housing shortage requires a coordinated effort with local governments. "It is a complicated issue that is largely rooted in local politics and anti-growth mentalities," Marshall said. "It's going to take time to unwind it." (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
