T-Mobile Could Decide Whether Industry Enters Price War -- Market Talk

1633 ET - T-Mobile's strategy could determine whether the telecommunications industry begins a price war, says Oppenheimer analyst Timothy Horan. T-Mobile has gained share over the past decade by undercutting the industry on price and the company still has10% to 15% lower prices than its peers. But now companies like Charter, Comcast and Verizon are fighting back with more aggressive pricing and bundling. Overall subscriber volumes in the industry are slowing, while spending on spectrum, network upgrades and acquisitions is rising. How T-Mobile reacts to those dynamics could "dictate industry fundamentals the next few years" and determine whether the industry enters a price war, Horan says. (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
