BYD (HKG:1211, SHE:002594) plans to invest in up to 300 fast-charging stations across South Africa by the end of 2026 as part of its global expansion strategy, Executive Vice President Stella Li said in a Bloomberg TV interview in Johannesburg.
"This is big money, this is a big investment," Li said, adding that South Africa "is an important market for us."
The company is also reportedly in the early stages of building dealerships in the country, but has no immediate plans for local manufacturing.
Li said the company is "doubling and tripling down" on expanding its dealership network and charging infrastructure to strengthen its foothold in emerging markets and Europe, according to the report.
