Boeing (BA) and Airbus are facing "unprecedented" delays in certifying and delivering aircraft, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.
"For some long-haul airplanes, we've been waiting for certification for seven or eight years, which is unprecedented," Air France-KLM Chief Executive Officer Ben Smith said in an online press conference, according to the report. "I don't think any of us have too much hope that it's going to get better in the short term."
The delays are being exacerbated by the US government shutdown, which has stopped aircraft inspections, the report added.
Boeing and Airbus did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
