Mongolian Mining (HKG:0975) said sales of washed coking coal rose 32% quarter over quarter to 2.3 million tonnes in the third quarter, while production dipped 3% to 2.1 million tonnes, according to a Wednesday Hong Kong bourse filing.

Shares of the mining firm were up nearly 5% in Thursday morning trade.

Run-of-mine coal output from its Ukhaa Khudag and Baruun Naran mines climbed 5% from the prior quarter to 3.6 million tonnes, though it was down 16% from a year earlier.

Gold production also began at the Bayan Khundii mine in September through its 50%-owned venture, Erdene Mongol, the filing said.

During the quarter, the mine sold 342 ounces of gold and 96 ounces of silver to the Bank of Mongolia and local banks.

The Bayan Khundii mine's processing plant has an annual ore capacity of 650,000 tonnes and is expected to reach full production in the fourth quarter, targeting up to 85,000 ounces of gold per year.
