European Media Sector Stocks Face Mixed Pressure from AI -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Oct 06

0852 GMT - The European media sector has been under pressure this year amid growing concerns around AI, UBS analysts write in a note. Shares in WPP, Publicis, Wolters Kluwer, and Pearson have been among the hardest hit, they say. However, earnings downgrades have remained relatively limited, except for London-listed advertising group WPP. The Swiss bank suggests that AI-related risks are being overestimated in the valuations of U.S. media group Omnicom and French advertising group Publicis. Meanwhile, the stocks of events and academic-publishing group Informa and U.K. information and analytics group RELX look well-placed to benefit from AI developments rather than experience disruption. WPP and Publicis shares are down 0.6% and 0.9%, respectively. Informa shares are up 0.1%. (najat.kantouar@wsj.com)
