China Leisure Travel Demand Seems Robust Over Golden Week -- Market Talk

0648 GMT - China's leisure travel demand seemed resilient in the first six days of the Golden Week holidays, Citi analysts say in a research note. The analysts say the domestic tourism trend has been decent in eastern China while southern & western China were affected by unfavorable weather. The nationwide passenger throughput is expected to rise 5% over Oct. 1-6, according to the Ministry of Transportation. While the longer holiday has encouraged more travel demand, domestic tourism looks to still be short-haul or day-trip driven, they say. Meanwhile, Chinese consumers continue to spend rationally during the holidays, they add. Among the Chinese tourism stocks, Citi prefers Atour Lifestyle Holdings and H World Group.(sherry.qin@wsj.com)
