Communications-services companies ticked up amid expectations of further deal activity.

Michael Cavanagh will serve as co-chief executive of Comcast alongside Brian Roberts, the cable and broadcast company said.

President Trump said he was slapping a 100% tariff on films made outside of the U.S., reiterating a threat he made earlier this year against the movie industry. Shares of U.S. movie studio Paramount Skydance rose sharply.

Shares of Japanese studio Sony Group fell, even after the conglomerate said it has listed shares of its financial business, valued at about $9.5 billion, in a bid to focus on its game and other entertainment businesses.
