Chinese microblogging platform Weibo (HKG:9898) and short video app Kuaishou Technology (HKG:1024) came in the crosshairs of local regulators over what authorities said were lax content control, the South China Morning Post reported Monday.
According to the Cyberspace Administration of China, both companies failed to crack down on celebrity gossip which ended up becoming trending topics on their platforms.
The internet regulator said it took disciplinary actions against the firms, including official warnings and corrective orders with a compliance deadline, the SCMP reported.
Acknowledging the criticism, the companies said they were investigating the matter and would take remedial steps.
