Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Mixed in Afternoon Trading

Consumer stocks were mixed Thursday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) down 0.5% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) adding 0.3%.

In corporate news, Darden Restaurants (DRI) reported fiscal Q1 earnings below market expectations, although the restaurant operator lifted its full-year sales growth outlook. Shares fell 7%.

Live Nation Entertainment (LYV) and its unit Ticketmaster were sued by the US Federal Trade Commission and seven US states for failing to prevent illegal ticket resale practices and deceptive pricing tactics, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday in a California federal court. Live Nation shares fell 2.1%.

Lifeway Foods (LWAY) shares dropped 21% after Danone said in a regulatory filing that it is no longer pursuing the acquisition of the company.
