Chinese self-driving company Pony AI is planning to expand its robotaxi services to Singapore, as the Southeast Asian country opens its market to autonomous vehicles.

Pony AI aims to deploy autonomous vehicles in Singapore with its local partner, ComfortDelGro, the Chinese company said Saturday. The partners plan to roll out robotaxi services in Punggol with fixed routes, the statement said. Pony AI expects the services to start in the coming months, subject to regulatory approval.

Pony AI formed a partnership with ComfortDelGro last summer to accelerate large-scale commercial deployment of autonomous vehicles. The pilot program was launched in China's Guangzhou in March.

The Singapore foray comes as Pony AI is stepping up efforts to enlarge it global fleet size and racing to reach single-unit break-even by early 2026.

Singapore has been supportive toward autonomous driving technology. In June, the Ministry of Transport released a plan to deploy autonomous vehicles in public housing estates by the end of this year. In July, the country formed a committee to guide the introduction of autonomous vehicles. Members of the committee include the chief executive officers of WeRide and Alphabet Inc.'s Waymo, as well as ride-hailing platforms Grab and ComfortDelGro.

"By delivering safe, comfortable, and efficient autonomous mobility services, we are committed to enhancing local residents' daily commutes and advancing the nation's smart mobility vision," said Pony AI CEO James Peng.

Pony AI aims to launch 1,000 robotaxis globally by the end of this year.
