0904 GMT - A proposed merger between mining companies Anglo American and Teck Resources has merits, but the prospect of rival suitors will likely be a big question mark on the deal for investors, Berenberg's Richard Hatch and William Dalby say in a research note. Glencore tried to acquire Teck in the past and might be considered as a potential rival bidder again, but cultural differences could hinder its chances, according to Berenberg. "We think that BHP could also be a potential interloper, given the ability to scale up its own copper business, but the best synergies appear to be coming through a deal with Anglo American," the analysts say. Anglo American shares jump 8.4% in late European morning trading, while Teck leaps 7.3% in U.S. premarket trading. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
