China United Network Communications or China Unicom (SHA:600050) obtained a license to operate satellite mobile services from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The license enables the carrier to deliver direct-to-cell satellite coverage for emergencies, maritime traffic and remote regions, according to the ministry.
Shares of China Unicom were down 2% in recent trade.
