1225 ET - General Mills is selling more beans, broth and rice as consumers cook more meals at home. "Whenever the consumer is struggling with value, we do see a shift back to cooking from scratch," finance chief Kofi Bruce says Tuesday at Barclays Global Consumer Staples Conference. The shift is providing a boost to some of the Minnesota-based company's brands, such as Progresso canned soups and beans. Shoppers are also trying to stretch their homemade meals further: "We're seeing people make those meals last longer than just one occasion," Bruce says. "They're typically stretching it to three meals." (connor.hart@wsj.com)
