All three major US stock indexes were down in late-morning trading Monday, as investors await news coming from Federal Reserve officials at the annual economic policy symposium taking place this week in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
In company news, Alphabet's (GOOG) Google will supply an incremental backstop of $1.4 billion in support of debt financing for a new data center and will receive warrants to acquire 32.5 million shares of TeraWulf (WULF) common stock, bringing its total backstop to about $3.2 billion and its total equity ownership in the company to about 14%, TeraWulf said Monday. Alphabet shares were down 0.4% near noon, while those of Terawulf were up 13%.
GoodRx (GDRX) said Monday it is partnering with Novo Nordisk (NVO) to offer Ozempic and Wegovy pens at the significantly lower price of $499 per month. Separately, Novo Nordisk plans to offer a steep Ozempic discount for cash-paying patients through its NovoCare pharmacy, according to a Bloomberg report. GoodRx shares were up 34.5%, while those of Novo Nordisk were up 5.4%.
Dayforce (DAY) is being considered for a takeover by Thoma Bravo, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter. The buyout firm is in advanced talks to take the human resources management software company private in a deal that could take place in the coming weeks, the people said, according to the report. Dayforce shares were up 26.9%.
Meta Platforms (META) is planning another restructuring of its artificial intelligence efforts, its fourth overhaul in six months, The Information reported Friday, citing three people familiar with the matter. The Meta Superintelligence Labs unit is expected to be split into four groups, according to the report. Meta shares were down 2.5%.
Comcast's (CMCSA) MSNBC is planning to change its name to My Source News as NBCUniversal spins off some of its brands into a separate company called Versant, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing an internal memo it viewed. Comcast shares were up 0.4%.
