LG Display Could Gain From Potential U.S. Ban on BOE Panels -- Market Talk

0301 GMT - LG Display could gain from a potential U.S. ban on the use of BOE Technology's panels in Apple products, as the rival Chinese flat-screen maker is viewed as losing a patent lawsuit, Nomura analysts Eon Hwang and Heesoo Min say. Apple will likely be reluctant to use BOE panels if plaintiff Samsung Display wins the suit and acts further against the Chinese company, the analysts say. The U.S. government could also favor Korean panels for security reasons, they add. "LGD may benefit from ease of competition," they write in a note. The U.S. International Trade Commission in July preliminarily ruled against BOE in the case, with its final ruling due in November. (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
