Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Advance Friday Afternoon

Consumer stocks rose Friday afternoon with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) increasing 0.3% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) up 0.2%.

In corporate news, Netflix (NFLX) shares rose 2.7% after Bloomberg reported the company is in talks with Major League Baseball about acquiring rights to stream the Home Run Derby.

Monster Beverage (MNST) shares jumped 6.3%, a day after the company recorded better-than-expected Q2 results with tariffs having an immaterial impact on operations.

Wendy's (WEN) lowered its full-year earnings and global systemwide sales outlook on Friday, even though the fast food chain recorded fiscal Q2 results above market expectations. Its shares added 0.7%.
