Baidu's Ad Revenue Faces Pressure From Change in Search Behavior -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
Aug 06

0359 GMT - Baidu's 2Q ad revenue may fall short of Deutsche Bank's previous estimates due to a faster-than-expected transition in search behavior. There has been reduced monetization amid a shift from traditional searches to generative AI searches, analyst Leo Chiang writes in a note. That said, Baidu is exploring monetization strategies for new AI-generated search traffic, but it may take some time before there is a turnaround in ad revenue. Baidu's cloud segment should maintain solid momentum, supported by continued strong demand for generative AI and its foundation model, he adds. The bank trims its 2025 revenue forecast by 4% to reflect the weaker ad outlook. (jiahui.huang@wsj.com; @ivy_jiahuihuang)
