CenterPoint Energy Inc. has announced a significant expansion in its renewable energy portfolio by partnering with Dem-Con HZI Bioenergy, LLC to purchase renewable natural gas $(RNG)$ produced from food and yard waste in the Twin Cities area. This locally sourced RNG will be integrated into CenterPoint's distribution system in Shakopee, Minnesota, by 2027, providing renewable energy to power homes and businesses. The initiative is part of CenterPoint's broader innovation plan, approved by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, which includes 17 pilot projects aimed at advancing decarbonization and delivering substantial environmental benefits. The plan is anticipated to reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 1.1 million tons over the projects' lifetimes and create approximately 3,000 jobs. CenterPoint is committed to supporting residential and business customers in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20-30% by 2035 from a 2021 baseline.
