Entergy Arkansas has announced plans to modernize its energy generation fleet with the proposed Jefferson Power Station, a state-of-the-art natural gas facility. The 754-megawatt combined cycle combustion turbine plant will be located in Jefferson County and is designed to power over 355,000 homes. This initiative aligns with recent legislation to ensure reliable and cost-effective energy for Arkansas, fostering economic growth. The project, which will transition the existing White Bluff facility from coal to a more sustainable energy source, promises significant economic benefits, including approximately 3,600 construction jobs and $128 million in tax contributions. By leveraging existing assets and new financing legislation, Entergy aims to minimize costs for customers, enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing financial burdens. The Arkansas Public Service Commission is set to review the project soon, with operations expected to commence in 2029.
